“As long as one keeps searching, the answers come.” — Joan Baez
The simple question “Why?” is one of our most powerful tools for self-discovery. It helps us dig beneath surface actions to uncover our real motives—the unconscious beliefs and habits that drive our behavior.
The Practice: Ask yourself, “Why am I doing this?” Write down whatever answer surfaces. Then ask “Why?” again about that answer. Keep digging until you reach the true source of your motivation.
This process of repeated questioning reveals the underlying reasons behind our choices. Once we understand our deeper motives, we gain the power to change them if needed.
“Men are more accountable for their motives, than for anything else…” — Archibald Alexander
Understanding why we do what we do is the first step toward intentional living. Keep searching—the answers will come.
