"Excellence is the result of caring more than others think is wise, risking more than others think is safe, dreaming more than others think is practical & expecting more than others think is possible."

Be Generous When It’s Hard

-Karthik Gurumurthy

Don’t Let Hard Times Make You Selfish

When things get tough, most of us instantly think, “What’s going to happen to me? My family? My savings?” It’s totally natural—we want to protect ourselves and what’s ours. Pull back, hunker down, preserve what we’ve got.

But here’s the problem: if that’s all we do, we’re just following fear down a really narrow path. We end up limiting ourselves big time.

The Leaders Who’ll Win? The Generous Ones

In today’s world, the leaders who actually make a difference are the ones who put people before profit. The ones who genuinely care about others first—they’re the ones who’ll come out on top.

Life’s pretty fair when you think about it: what you put in is what you get back.

This Sounds Backwards, But…

The hardest times are actually when you should be most generous. I know that goes against every instinct you have, but it’s true.

Be generous with your time. Share your talents. Give people your attention. Now’s the time to pay it forward—to give back all those kindnesses people showed you when you needed it.

It might feel risky, but that’s exactly when it matters most.
