Today’s pretty special—a bunch of people I care about are celebrating their birthdays.

First up, my aunt Kalyani Athai who lives in Nagpur. She’s seriously one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet. Fun fact: she’s actually the one who named me Karthik. Happy Birthday, Athai!

Then there’s my best friend Sudarsanam Raman (also known as Susi). We go way back—like, all the way back to kindergarten. He’s been there for me through everything, and I’m grateful every day to have a friend like him. He lives in Wales now, and today’s his wife Anu’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Anu!

And finally, my niece Sangita is turning six today! She lives in Scottsdale, and I’ve known her since the day she was born.
