Networking Made Simple

  1. Walk in like you belong there. Wherever you are, carry yourself with confidence.
  2. Show up ready to give. Every time you meet someone, think about what you can offer them, not just what you can get.
  3. Network around something you love. Connecting with people through a hobby or passion makes it feel natural and a lot easier.
  4. Treat people the way you’d want to be treated. Kindness and respect go a long way.
  5. Communicate clearly and look people in the eye. It shows you’re confident, honest, and paying attention.
  6. Don’t give up. Keep reaching out and following up, even when it takes time.
  7. Be the first to say hello. Don’t wait for someone else to introduce themselves; go ahead and make the first move.
  8. Know what you want, and be patient. Be clear about your goal, but wait for the right moment before you go for it.
  9. Don’t get starstruck. If you’re too in awe of someone’s success, it shows, and it can make you seem less credible. Treat them like a regular person.
  10. Invest in relationships. Taking time to really get to know people is what networking is all about.
  11. Listen more than you talk. Ask open-ended questions and let people share. You have two ears and one mouth for a reason, so use them in that proportion.
